Hi there. My name is Greg and I'd like to tell you a little bit about the missional community my wife Linda and I lead in our neighborhood.
At the present time we meet with 5 other familes every Friday night. All of the people who attend are seekers of God at some level and in the last 16 months we have seen 5 people come to faith in Jesus. All of the people attending live within walking distance of our home and are people that we have built relationships with while walking around our neighborhood, running a Canada Day event for our town, volunteering in the school or being involved in the local theatre group. This gathering is for anyone who is on the journey of seeking God.
When we gather in soemone's home we share life and food with the whole family (kids included), we learn from scripture, listen to God, listen to each other, encourage one another and pray for one another as we go back into the community to live out our sentness. Living out our sentness is just another way of saying, living out the mission of building God's kindgom where he has palced us. Sometimes our mission work is done on our own and others times it is done as a group. As a community we are led by mission but we are also intentional about nurturing community with one another and communion with God.
The kids in the group who range from 3 to 13 are welcome to stay with the adults each week but at least twice a month the older children with the help of an adult will lead a community learning time in the basement. Once a month we will also do some sort of party or special event that is easy to invite other neighbors out to.
We seek to live our lives on mission where God has placed us and with the gifts and abilities he has entrusted to us. For some this has meant becoming foster parents, running block parties, taking care of neighbours children, serving with the local Scouts and bascily being open to allowing Jesus to shine his light through us. As a group we have partnered with Food for the Hungry Canada to adopt a village in Guetemala to help them become self sustaining. This group called Binbrook and Beyond is something anyone in our community can get involved in and we are encouraged byt he people whoa re strting to get involved with us.
We are always open to new people coming and our dream is to empower enough followers of Jesus in our community so that every neighborhood would be able to establish a missional community that is intentionally demonstrating and proclaiming the kingdom to the large segment of our population that isn't interested in church but need God. In the future we envision a gathering of these missional communites for a time of worshipping God together in celebration, learning, encouragement, learning, and prayer.
